Your questions answered – City & Guilds

What is City & Guilds?

City and Guilds is a global leader in skills education, and the leading provider of vocational education in the UK. City & Guilds qualifications help people get into a job, progress in their career, and move on to their next challenge.

What are the benefits of a professional qualification with City & Guilds?

  • You'll have the chance to build on existing knowledge and skills.
  • You'll gain internationally-recognised qualification that you can use across jobs and sectors.

What kind of qualification can I get?

You can work towards any of the following:

  • Level 2 City & Guilds Award, Certificate or Diploma in Operational Delivery (Principles)
  • Level 3 City & Guilds Award, Certificate or Diploma in Operational Delivery (Advanced)
  • Level 4 City & Guilds Award, Certificate or Diploma in Operational Delivery (Management)
  • Level 4 City & Guilds Award in Relationship Management (Operational Delivery)
  • Level 4 City & Guilds Award in Managing the Delivery of Services to Customers (Operational Delivery) DWP only
  • Level 4 City & Guilds Certificate in Managing the Delivery of Services to Customers (Operational Delivery) DWP only
  • Level 5 City & Guilds Award in Project Specification for Operational Delivery

When you enrol, you’ll be registered as a City & Guilds learner for three years. That means you have three years to complete your chosen qualification. Where you start will depend on the skills you already have. You can stop at any time, or build on the qualifications you’ve taken. An Award will count towards a Certificate, and a Certificate will count towards a Diploma. This flexibility allows you to work at a pace that suits you.

Do I have to sit an exam?

You have to sit exams for all Level 2 and 3 qualifications. These will be held in an exam environment. At Level 2, the exams are multiple-choice questions. At Level 3, the exams are short answer tests.

Once you’ve finished studying for a unit, you need to discuss what you’ve learnt with your Line Manager. They’ll decide whether you’re ready to sit the exam. Your Line Manager will then get in touch with Premier Partnership to book your exam.

Levels 4 and 5 qualifications are assignment based. Once you’ve enrolled, you can log into the Premier Partnership site https://cap.premierpartnership.co.uk/moodle/login/index.php to see what you need to complete.

How is my work assessed?

Each qualification or unit of qualification has its own assessment criteria. Depending on your qualification, you could be assessed by:

  • Multiple choice question test (Level 2)
  • Short answer questions (Level 3)
  • Assignments (Level 4)
  • Project planning report (Level 5)

What support will I have?

There is lots of support to help you achieve success, including

  • For Levels 4 and 5, you’ll get membership of the Institute of Leadership Management (ILM)
